Carnival Cruise Line plans to switch on even more fun as the brand has just announced that it is expecting two new cruise ships which are set for delivery in 2020 and 2022.
The new ships will be the largest ever built for Carnival cruise line, weighing in at over 180,000 tonnes each. Each ship will have an approximate passenger capacity of 5,200 based on double occupancy. The ships will be the first in north America to be powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as part of a ‘green-design’ initiative to reduce air pollution from their cruise ships. The ships will be built by Meyer Turku at their shipyard in Finland marking the first time a Carnival ship has been built here in 12 years.
Carnival cruise line currently has 12 ships in its current fleet that were constructed in Finland including its eight Fantasy-class ships and four Spirit-class ships.
“This new ship order signifies an extraordinarily exciting future for Carnival Cruise Line and the opportunities that lie ahead to introduce a variety of magnificent new features and innovations to further enhance our outstanding guest experience”, said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We are also thrilled to be introducing Carnival Corporation’s ‘green cruising’ design platform to North America. Both of these ships will be fully powered at sea and in port by Liquefied Natural Gas, which is the world’s cleanest burning fossil fuel. These ships are being designed for maximum energy efficiency and environmental friendliness,” Duffy added.
Here at Cruise Nation we’re eagerly awaiting news about design and itinerary information which will be announced at a later date.
The news of the two ships, comes at an exciting time for growth for Carnival Cruise Line who have just launched the brand new Carnival Vista this year and plan to launch the 133,500-tonne Carnival Horizon in 2018.
