La Moneda Palace (Palacio de La Moneda), also known simply as La Moneda, is an iconic neoclassical building in Santiago, Chile. Designed by the Italian architect Joaquín Toesca, construction of La Moneda began in 1784, and it was completed in 1805. Originally, it served as the colonial mint house, where coins were produced from 1814 to 1929. Over time, it transformed into the seat of government and the presidential residence. During the military coup on September 11, 1973, the Chilean Air Force bombed La Moneda, resulting in significant damage. The restoration projects were completed in March 1981, preserving some bullet marks as a testament to its history.
