"Music lovers flock to Memphis to immerse themselves in deep soulful blues and hard hitting rock and roll."

Welcome to Memphis

Situated on the Mississippi River in southwest Tennesse, Memphis is famous for the blues, soul and rock 'n' roll music that originated there. Elvis Presley, B.B.King and Johnny Cash all recorded albums at the legendary Sun Studio, and Presley's famous Graceland mansion is also situated here. Blues, jazz and rock 'n' roll can be heard from the clubs along Beale Street and the local restaurants serve up Memphis-style barbecue and soul food.

The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel, site of Martin Luther King Jr's assassination, offers immersive exhibits covering some of the key moments in the struffle for racial equality. Other points of interest worth visiting are Memphis Zoo, paddlewheel cruises and the elegant Peabody Hotel's famed ducks, which march along a red carpet to the lobby fountain!

Weather in North America

Memphis’ weather brings a blend of Southern charm and variety, offering warm summers, mild winters, and everything in between. Spring is a star, with temperatures rising from 10–20°C and the city bursting into bloom—perfect for outdoor strolls and festivals like Memphis in May. Occasional rain showers keep the landscape lush and green.

Summers turn up the heat, with temperatures ranging from 25–35°C, paired with a healthy dose of humidity. It’s the perfect excuse to cool off with some sweet tea or catch the breeze by the Mississippi River. Afternoon thunderstorms are common but quick, often leaving behind clear skies and golden sunsets.

Autumn brings cooler, more comfortable days between 15–25°C, with vibrant foliage adding a splash of color to the city’s historic streets. Winters are mild, with temperatures typically between 0–10°C and only an occasional dusting of snow. Whether it’s sunny and warm or cozy and cool, Memphis’ weather always sets the stage for its rich music, mouthwatering barbecue, and laid-back vibes.

Things to do in Memphis

The city was named after the ancient Egyptian city, meaning “Place of Good Abode”. It grew rapidly with the expansion of cotton growing in the South and because of its transportation facilities by railroad and river. Memphis was a Confederate military center early in the American Civil War, but it was captured by a Union gunboat force in 1862 and remained occupied until the end of the war.

Memphis is also known as the 'home of the blues’ because W C Handy lived there. It has been an important center of trade for the South’s cotton. The city’s main suburbs include Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland, and Millington in Tennessee and Horn Lake, Olive Branch, and Southaven in Mississippi.

Kick off your adventures on Beale Street, where the vibrant music scene will have you tapping your toes to live performances that set the soul on fire. Don’t forget to grab some mouthwatering barbecue because, let’s face it, Memphis is famous for its fall-off-the-bone ribs and tangy sauce that’s basically a love letter to your taste buds!

Next, immerse yourself in history with a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel, where the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement is powerfully brought to life. Afterward, take a stroll along the Mississippi Riverfront or explore the eclectic shops and galleries in the South Main Arts District. And no trip would be complete without a stop at Graceland—the stunning home of Elvis Presley—where you can channel your inner King. With rich culture, delicious food, and a lively atmosphere, Memphis is a city that invites you to experience its unique rhythm and history!
