Restaurants

The Dining Room

This spectacularly decorated main dining room makes every meal feel like special occasion due to its master designer Adam. D. Tihany. Open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, the restaurant offers a choice of either traditional pre-set seating and dining times or the ships 'As You Wish' freedom dining. Dinner consists of five courses ranging from appetisers of steamed mussels to fettuccine, chicken, desserts and more.

Grand Dutch Cafe

Inspired by the brand's Dutch heritage, the European cafe concept complements the top deck of the atrium and offers a space where passengers can enjoy a coffee as well as some light meals and pastries.

Lido Marketplace

This eatery provides a relaxed dining area with fresh cooked to order selections and a choice of seating either indoors or al fresco. Rather than an endless, winding hallway of food, the Lido Market fully embraces the station concept. This aids navigation and sanitation as everything is served from behind a glass panel. Stations are: Homestead, where you'll find classic comfort food; Distant Lands, for international cuisine; Wild Harvest is a deluxe salad station; and the Breadboard offers sandwiches, to name a few.

Rudi's Sel de Mer

The restaurant sees Holland America's brilliant executive culinary director, Rudi Sodamin, put his own special touches on the original French seafood brasserie concept. It has a standard cover charge but do be aware that certain items require a hefty upcharge. The mood is set with soft music, featuring a variety of French chanteuses, in the background.

The Pinnacle Grill

The Pinnacle Grill is an upmarket yet intimate reservations only restaurant, which specialises in only serving the highest quality steaks, chops and seafood at dinnertime. Dishes on offer range from premium sterling silver beef, filet mignon and jumbo prawns, and broiled lobster tail to Caesar salad and lobster bisque for starters and chocolate and raisin bread and butter pudding or baked Alaska for dessert. Once per cruise they have a special 'An Evening at le Cirque' event, which is well worth looking out for.

Tamarind

This Asian inspired restaurant offering panoramic sea views from the upper deck. The lunch menu is complimentary and consists of dishes including a variety of steamed dim sums, snapper, red curry coconut chicken, sweet and sour vegetable tempura and sushi. Dinner is reservation and cover charge only and offers more exotic dishes. An exciting addition on Nieuw Statendam is the alfresco seating, guarded by a mosaic 'terra cotta warrior' on either side, overlooking the Sea View pool below.

Nami Sushi

Culinary Council member chef Andy Matsuda has created this standalone sushi venue, which although it's located inside Tamarind, it has its own unique menu. They serve starters followed by classic sushi rolls and other sea food items. Five of Tamarind's entrees can be ordered at the sushi bar, as well as three desserts, but trendy mochi ice cream is only listed at Nami.

G Gelato

Once you've tasted their exquisite gelato, you won't mind paying extra for it. They have a dozen freshly made gelato flavours available every day, from strawberry and chocolate to more delicate flavours like peach.

Bars and Lounges

Music Walk

Music Walk is the name given to the ship's section that features several different music venues. Each venue has a different theme and atmosphere, whether that is classical, blues, rock or pop. The idea behind it is that you can simply dip in and out of the open lounges and even enjoy a bit of music on your way to dinner or a show. The Nieuw Statendam's highlights include the Queen's Lounge, Billboard Onboard and the Rolling Stone Rock Room.

Notes Whiskey Bar

Notes offers guests interested in whiskey-tasting the chance to sample a number of fine varieties from more than a hundred bottles. Guided tastings can be booked for a fee but be aware that shots of certain whiskies can cost as much as hundreds of dollars.

Ocean Bar

The Ocean Bar surrounds the central atrium and features a small stage and dance floor, which makes it the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks and dancing.

Rolling Stone Rock Room

This bar is fantastic for all lovers of rock tunes, with its red leather sofas and servers sporting famous band T-shirts like Pink Floyd and the Ramones. They have classic cocktails and specialities on the menu.

Queen's Lounge

The highlight of this beautifully decorated area is the stage, which looks like a violin and the performances by B.B. King's band. Other activities, like the America's Test Kitchen Demos, might be held here during your sailing. Be sure to arrive early if you want a mezzanine seat on nights that B.B King's band plays as it often means standing room only.

Billboard Onboard

This very large room is home to a dance floor and piano players who belt out hits from the Billboard charts. It offers audience participation through frequent requests. Day time events include cocktail parties.

Activities

Theatre

The World stage is the Nieuw Statendam's main performance stage, offering unobstructed views and 270-degree screens that are used during performances. The theatre highlight is an exclusive BBC Planet Earth short film, which is accompanied by a live orchestra.

America's Test Kitchen

Perfect for all foodies, this event hosts free group demos and charged for more intimate cooking classes. For a fee, you can also create your own red wine blend guided by an onboard wine expert at Blend on Deck 2. Wine tastings and happy hours are held here throughout your sailing.

Outdoor Recreation

The Sports Court and outdoor recreation facilities are on deck eleven, with a netted basketball court that doubles as a soccer court. The jogging track is also located here as well as outdoor fitness equipment. The ship also features a shuffleboard court, ping-pong table and a sheltered walking track.

Outdoor Movies

A massive movie screen plays movies of all genres and snacks and popcorn are available at the New York Deli. The space has been cleverly designed with a glass magrodome roof which can open or close depending on the weather.

Art Gallery

This gallery features a range of artwork to view and purchase as well as hosting art history classes and art auctions. It hosts a curated collection of young and emerging artists from the destinations that the ship visits. All art, managed by ArtLink Galleries, is for sale and intended to be affordable.

Casino

The Casino has a vast array of glittering slot machines as well as a great variety of table games. Complimentary gaming lessons are held in the casino on select afternoons and select nights are smoke-free.

Greenhouse Spa & Salon

The spa has an impressive thermal suite, which includes access to multiple saunas, a steam room, aromatherapy room, relaxation room with heated ceramic loungers and a hydrotherapy pool. Treatments onboard are provided using Elemis brand products. A dedicated salon offers hair, nail and men's services

Fitness Centre

Located inside the spa, this fitness centre features an impressive array of cutting edge Precor fitness machines such as stationary bikes, rowing machines, ellipticals and weight machines, plus treadmills that face floor-to-ceiling windows over the ocean. Some of their classes are free but others like pilates and yoga are charged per class. Personal training is also available.

The Sea View Pool

The Sea View pool and deck is open to the elements with beautiful views, 2 hot tubs and a wooden bench surrounding the entire pool as well as plenty of sun loungers.

Kids Clubs

Unlike some other Holland America cruise ships, the Nieuw Statendam offers fantastic kid and teen club facilities. Club Hal has age appropriate activities for kids aged three to twelve and the teens have their own hangout space called the Loft.
